International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has advised Live Nation on attaining Competition Commission (‘the Commission’) clearance for its $2.5bn merger with Ticketmaster. The clearance represents an overturn of an earlier provisional ruling by the Commission.

Freshfields antitrust, competition and trade (ACT) partner Nicholas Spearing led the Freshfields team advising Live Nation with support from ACT senior associate Martyn Chu and associate Mary Wilks from the same practice.

Nicholas Spearing said, "It's rare for provisional findings to be overturned, but ultimately the parties won because they had the most credible view of the future and of the actual impact of the merger.’

‘We're obviously pleased that the Commission was eventually able to analyse the issues in a measured way, despite the noise level surrounding the case."
